April Showers Mini Quilt

This is my entry for this year’s Festival of Quilts. It is entered into the miniature category, measuring around 9 inches square.

I couldn’t find a pattern for a rainbow that I liked so I drew my own. It is a paper pieced pattern, which I drew out on greaseproof paper. The figure is also paper pieced, and is adapted from a free pattern I found on Craftsy – I made it smaller and completed the umbrella.

The rainbow is quilted by hand with embroidery threads, following the curve of each colour. I used lazy daisy stitches across the rest of the piece to make raindrops.

This was number 2 on my FAL list for Q2. My second finish of the quarter – everything else is going to be carried forward to the next 3 months!

  2. It’s beautiful! I hope that I get to see it in person – what a beautiful design! On behalf of the FAL hosts, thanks for playing along!
