Globetrotting BOM – UK and Ireland

This year I was looking for a new paper piecing block of the month to do, and came across the the landmarks series that Janeen is doing at Quilt Art Designs. She announced that she was teaming up with Irene at Patchwork and Pastry who was offering maps that coordinated with each month’s landmark. The first month was the UK, and I just couldn’t resist!

This must be the most challenging paper piecing that I have done, mostly as it has the most pieces and is the largest single block I have made in this way.

The map was split into 25 pieces to make separately and then join together!

I went with very traditional map colours for mine – green and blue. I had a fat quarter of each colour, which was only just enough. I started with the biggest pieces first so that I didn’t get to the end and only have odd shapes that wouldn’t fit.

I’m really pleased with my map. I’m not sure what I shall do with it – I don’t know if I’ll make all the others in the series, or just pick and choose. Maybe I’ll only make the places I’ve been too. Perhaps I’ll just give this block a border and make it into a mini on its own.

I have enjoyed making it though. and I’m sure I’ll be making more maps at some point in the future 🙂
