Scottie Dog Doorstop

Last week was my sister-in-law’s birthday. Grown-up birthdays are so much harder to think of ideas for than children’s!

I decided to make this doorstop. It’s something a bit different and looks quite cute. The pattern came with a magazine. I did not like the pattern. It was written in about 5 steps, which made it look really easy. Except there were no pictures to go with the instructions, which left things a little open to interpretation.

Being a doorstop it’s meant to be weighted, in this case with rice. I’ve never stuffed anything with rice before. That’s a lot trickier than it looks! Especially when the hole to put the rice into in underneath on the tummy of the dog, and you’re meant to be getting the rice into the legs! I used some low-tech tools for my rice insertion – namely a funnel, a measuring scoop and a mixing bowl. The funnel inserted into the empty dog, the measuring scoop to pour the rice into the funnel, and the mixing bowl to work over to keep from having rice all over the floor!

It turned out pretty well in the end. I think it looks quite cute 🙂
